KLA/MPLA

The Kansas Young Adult Librarians Roundtable recently met at the KLA/MPLA conference in Wichita. We talked about a lot of things for the roundtable but above all was our concern to get more members! So we are asking you for help. Encourage your colleagues to join KYAL so that they can be on our listserv and get to meet other wonderful YA librarians around Kansas.

One thing you can do to get out the word about KYAL is to host a teen share fair for your region. It is pretty simple:
  1. Pick a date, time and location.
  2. Contact YA librarians in your neighborhood of the state and invite them to join in the sharefest.
  3. Have everyone fill out a simple card explaining a teen program they have done that worked for them. Each participant brings enough copies for everyone at the share fair.
  4. Buy some modest snacks and fruit punch.
  5. Open the doors and let the sharing begin! One by one you can talk about your programs so that you don't have to repeat yourself 10 times over.
  6. Leave time at the end for socializing and networking (this is the time to encourage everyone to join KYAL for more fun).
  7. Send everyone home with a copy of the info sheet for each activity shared.
  8. Bask in the wonderousness that is being a teen librarian!
Sounds pretty easy and pretty fun right? Well get out there and start your own share fair!
